On to Maggie Valley, N. Carolina

On the road from June 25th to July 2 and it was just a super ride. Coming out of Ohio the first day we avoided the interstate, choosing instead to enjoy the country side as we rode south. While we managed to avoid rain, it would have been a relieve to the heat had we gotten wet. It was almost unbearably hot and humid. We rode a bit over 300 miles that first day, spending the night in eastern Kentucky; Prestonburg. There's a terrific steak house there (Reno's) next to the Super 8. And for those in the need to know, it is NOT a dry county.

We continued south on Rte 23 to I-81 south in Virginia. The "I" isn't a real pleasant ride but in Prestonburg we were still 300 plus miles from our destination so we opted for the quicker route.

The country side is simply gorgeous. You can click on the pics to view larger image.

I-40 south to Rte 276 to Maggie Vally was a smooth ride. It was still hotter than we like but we did run through some "after rain spots" where the air was cooler. We reached our spot in Maggie Valley, the Apple Cover Inn, in the early afternoon; settling in for a cold brew and a bit of a nap.
Princess took this pic of me, dreaming of moving south.
